After 17 failed attempts at a broken download between cellphone and laptop, downloading 3 different programs to convert this book from one file to another and successfully getting it onto my kindle, this book was worth going through the damn fire for. So here I am, at 2AM bawling my eyes out because the courage of Alex, the love she found, being able to relate to being shut down by homophobia and the ache in my heart reading this damn book that hit so close to home. The friendships she had, the pain from her mother, the relationships that were built and killed and god the twist, THE GOD DAMN TWIST!!! Do me a favor, get this damn book, and read it. Never put it down. I haven’t felt this much heartbreak since the book “Why We Broke Up” by Daniel Handler, except this one hurt more and it well had lesbians. The end.

If I Tell You 9780646961255 Books Reviews

If I tell you is a powerful read right from the start. I read this book in two days, which doesn’t happen very often for me. Alicia Tuckerman’s writing is beautiful and fully captures life in a small country town in rural Australia. This story made me feel all the emotions, I was laughing, crying and smiling my way through it. The ending is definitely a tear-jerker. I think If I tell you is a story that will stick with me, it shows just how hard it is to come out and how important it is to be yourself.

Alex was such a wonderful protagonist to follow. I loved her passion for music as well. Her strength and bravery are inspiring and I think will help a lot of teens dealing with coming out and facing their fears. The romance between Alex and Phoenix was lovely to read about, although they had their ups and downs, you could tell how much they loved each other. Phoenix was a complicated character, with her own secrets and fears as well. I loved the side characters especially Alex’s Dad and Lin.

Overall, I think If I tell you is a powerful and moving story that everyone should read. If I tell you is out on March 1st 2018.

Thank you to Pantera Press for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review.
A well written emotional ambush. I can best compare this to [John Green's] [Fault In Our Stars] for tissue necessity. [Tuckerman] has written a beutiful coming of age/coming out novel that captures all the struggle and complexities involved. Then she added a twist! The characters were amazing and although someof the terminoligy(I am not familiar with Aussie) was a bit different the messege was timeless.
Loved this book until the ending. Then it made me want to throw the book against the wall. Not sure if this was the author’s intention but I think when any book elicits a strong reaction from the reader, it’s achieved something special. Living in the boonies of small town Australia, Alex decides it’s time to come out to the world. A big part of her decision is when she meets Phoenix, the new girl in town who looks like the poster child for a big city, tattooed, young Lesbian. But ultimately, it’s Phoenix’s free spirit and loving heart that capture Alex and give her the final push to face family and friends with her truth. The writing was engaging, although I kept having to look up Aussie words that I had no clue about, and the supporting characters were nicely drawn. Now about the ending, it did feel a little Hallmarky but that was more the author’s decision than a knock on the story. Over all, a very good book.
