A Far Far Better Thing Legends of the Goldens Book 1 edition by SBK Burns Fiona Jayde Paranormal Romance eBooks

I have to admit, I still haven't wrapped my head around the story.

The Goldens who seems to be the nice vampires have created androids to help them. One of them, Max, is supposed to be Kira's protector, yet, he seems rather weak for the job.

While I love the idea of two breeds of vampires coming from space along with a race of sentient androids, the execution was a bit shaky. Let me explain why.

The whole thing was confusing. The author calls the Earthlings human, which is right, but she calls every creatures human too. At some point, she calls the robot, human. There was also Kira, who got pregnant from…sometimes she calls him a human and sometimes she calls him a Dacon (the other breed of vampire). At some point, it made me wonder if the Earthlings also had fangs.

While I understand they can all be humans or look like one, when reading the story, the ambiguity made me question if I had missed something somewhere. (Truth be told, maybe I did miss something. After all, I spent most of the time lost.)

As all these different humans were not enough, add dimensional travels to it and it gets even more complicated. I wished there would have been more explanations about their world and the races/species/breeds. It would also have been nice if the author would have stuck to what they were (Android, Dacon, Golden, and humans, (or Earthlings maybe) instead of calling them all the same thing: Humans.

Now, I loved Max the android. He acted more like a human being than Kira ever did, which made me dislike her at times…ok…often. He's the sole reason I read the whole story. I wanted to know what would happen to him. I also hoped that I'd end up understanding everything.

That said, I'm still curious about the rest of the series.

A Far Far Better Thing Legends of the Goldens Book 1 edition by SBK Burns Fiona Jayde Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I am not quite sure where to start with this one, I knew going into reading this novel that it was science fiction , so I tried to have an open mind. I liked the premise, Kira is a Golden who has psychic powers and is a vampire and Max who is an android, but an android who has very human traits. Max was built quite differently from his android counterparts and has the ability to lie and to have human desires and experiences. A few chapters in, the book started to get a little muddled and hard to follow. It took me a while to finish the book and there were times that I had to go back and re-read to clarify what was going on. I gave this book three stars because it really has some interesting twists and turns. I hope that the future books are a little more clear and easy to follow.
Quick read about a futuristic society where vampires, androids, and humans coexist. Because this was a novella and there were many different types of characters, I found this book rather confusing. It is easy to follow Kira, a Golden with psychic powers, and Max, an android, but the rest of the character development I found to be cumbersome. I'm not sure if it's because the characters traveled through different portals and time periods, but I had to re-read some chapters to understand what character I was following, what universe they were in, and where they were in the timeline. It also took me until one of the last chapters to realize that Kira was a vampire. I thought the story was interesting but the characters and their “powers” need a little more of a background.

Wow S.B.K. Burns has quite the imagination! Kira and Max are likable characters I think that drew me right into their storyline from page one. Kira, a Golden, forcibly impregnated by a human and afraid to tell her family and Max, her android protector, torn between his duty and his secret love for Kira have difficult choices to make. Filled with vampires, androids, humans, half-breeds, and others, there are many characters to keep up with which I had difficulty with at times but managed to keep up pretty well. Throw in time travel and a forbidden love and it makes for an interesting sci-fi read for adult readers. This being the first one in the series leaves enough curiosity to the reader to see what will happen in the next ones. I look forward to reading more from the imaginative Mrs. Burns.

A very different book! Lots of unusual things! The author is to be admired for her imagination and ability to write her thoughts so well in this novel. Total fantasy written in a simple, yet interesting way, that compels the reader to "go on", wondering what on earth might happen. A young girl, an android, vampires, fears of family and mistrust of them and what they might know, or find out even telepathically, serves this short and sweet book very well. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to late teens and most adults interested in the "Goldens" and their way of life. This would be a good series to give as a gift, too!

Kira, the heroine of this romance, could shape shift, read minds, and teleport if she could only learn how. She hasn’t been a very good student. She’s disobeyed Maxwell, her human-look-alike android guardian, went and got herself pregnant by a human, though it wasn’t her fault. Now Max, as an android, has to tell the truth about his misbehaving charge. But if she lets him, her people will dismantle him for falling down on the job.

If Kira does nothing but one last thing right, it will be to learn from Max how to become psychically strong enough to save his life and maybe hers as well.

This story starts a series of books, “Legends of the Goldens,” handling issues of diversity as it makes light of vampires when they bring their nasty selves from outer space back to Earth only to be faced with their do-gooder cousins, Kira’s people, the Goldens, who want to give the vampires back their souls.

S.B.K. Burns gives Kira lots of attitude and Max enough self-respect as they butt heads together through this light-hearted urban fantasy. A fun entry into the world of the Goldens. A better read than most.
